About The Sewing Rooms

The Sewing Rooms specialises in altering bridal, bridesmaids, mother of the bride and formal gowns. Arlene Ferguson the in house designer can also work with you to design and create a bespoke gown of your choice, for bridal, formal or any other special occasion.

Arlene Ferguson studied at Belfast Metropolitan College and gained a degree in fashion management. With the dream of becoming a costume designer, she worked for five years freelancing, in television and film. She spent this time working in the wardrobe departments of local television series, short and feature films and also theatre. After graduating from college Arlene decided this was not the career for her and moved into high-end garment alterations and revamping and redesigning old garments into new creations. With over 20 years experience in garment alterations and designing, specialising in bridal and formal alterations.

Arlene has now moved forward and designs more bespoke dresses and gowns for clients, in bridal and formal wear and she loves it. “There’s nothing quite like making a clients vision become a reality!”

Over the past few years Arlene has dreamed of teaching everything she has learned and experienced over the past 20 years and sharing this knowledge. During the covid lockdown restriction periods The Sewing Rooms were unable to work so Arlene grabbed this opportunity to start creating her unique bespoke training business called Sew Informed.
