Sew Informed Alterations

The Alterations course can be taken directly after the Foundations course. In this course the student will learn everything they need to know to fulfil all their garment alterations in the comfort of their own home.

Starting off with the garment care symbols and the importance of the correct washing temperatures and other fabric/garment care.  An in-depth breakdown on how to thread an overlocker and its uses, including a test run with the machine.  A section on how to rip out stitches without damaging the garment or fabric, tools and the easiest methods, including how to do this on straight stitching and overlocking.

Fitting and pinning skills will be taught, including how to master this on yourself, not usually an easy task!

This section will take you through the easiest methods on how fit trouser and skirt length, waistlines, seams and sleeves lengths.

Each alteration will be explained step by step in great detail and will cover;

  • Turning up
  • Double folded hem
  • Narrow rolled hem
  • Fine narrow rolled hem
  • Machine blind hemming
  • Hand-stitched blind hemming
  • Blind hemming: half and full tapes
