  • Reading the pattern envelope, the garment description, sizing, amount of fabric required, suggested fabric, sewing difficulty, what with and without nap means, and the notions list.
  • Studying the Instructions and technical illustrations, pattern markings key, illustrated pattern pieces, placing the pattern pieces, and the cutting layout.  Analysing the tissue pattern pieces with seam allowance, cutting lines, notches, grain lines, and cutting out the pattern pieces and transferring the markings onto the fabric.
  • Identifying the fabrics selvedge edge, and fabric types.

  • How to take body measurements correctly for a correct fit, when selecting pattern size to cut out pattern pieces.
  • Darts types and gathers, and how they are used in a garment to create a curved shape from a flat piece of fabric and design detail.
  • The uses for interfacings, facings and enclosed interfacings, and a garments construction.
  • How to sew a collar and machine sew button holes.

  • Reading the pattern envelope, the garment description, sizing, amount of fabric required, suggested fabric, sewing difficulty, what with and without nap means, and the notions list.
  • Studying the Instructions and technical illustrations, pattern markings key, illustrated pattern pieces, placing the pattern pieces, and the cutting layout.
  • Analysing the tissue pattern pieces with seam allowance, cutting lines, notches, grain lines and cutting out the pattern pieces and transferring the markings onto the fabric.

  • Explaining the fabrics selvedge edge and best fabrics suited for making trousers and skirts.
  • Taking lower body measurements, enabling the correct pattern size when selecting the pattern pieces to cut out.
  • Darts types and gathers used in the waistline of the trousers and skirt.
  • How to sew a waistband, insert zips, pockets and finally machine sew a button hole.
